Jiggy Wrigglers Franchise Limited is fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all
children and young people. It recognises its responsibility to take all reasonable steps to
promote safe practice and to protect children from harm, abuse and exploitation.
At Jiggy Wrigglers, we have a 4-tiered safeguarding system:

Commitment to Safeguarding
Jiggy Wrigglers Franchise Limited, its franchisees and volunteers acknowledge the duty
to act appropriately on any allegations, reports, or suspicions of abuse. All staff,
franchisees and volunteers will work together to promote an ethos that embraces
difference and diversity and respect the rights of children, young people and adults.
We believe that no child or young person should ever experience abuse of any kind. We
have a responsibility to promote their welfare and to keep them safe, and we are
committed to practicing in a way that protects them.
Legal Framework
This policy has been drawn up on the basis of law and guidance that seeks to protect
children, including:

• The Children and Social Work Act
• The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
• The Data Protection Act
• The Sexual Offences Act
• The Protection of Freedoms Act
• Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
• The Prevent Duty Guidance
• Relevant government guidance on safeguarding children
Implementation
In implementing this safeguarding policy, Jiggy Wrigglers Franchise Limited and its
franchisees will:• Ensure that all workers and volunteers understand their legal and moral
responsibility to protect children and young people from harm, abuse and
exploitation.
• Ensure that all workers and volunteers understand and follow the organisation’s
Child Protection procedures.
• Ensure that all workers and volunteers understand their duty to report concerns
about a child’s welfare, or about another worker’s conduct.
• Ensure that the DSL or DDSL refer any safeguarding concerns to the statutory
agencies (Police and/or Social Services).
• Ensure that disciplinary and conduct procedures are implemented consistently
and fairly.
• Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for all staff, franchisees
and volunteers regarding child welfare and protection.
• Enable children and young people to express their views and have access to the
organisation’s complaints procedure.
• Encourage parental and carer involvement, and provide access to policies and
procedures upon request.
• Keep up to date with national safeguarding developments.
Child Protection Procedures
Section 1 – Introduction
These procedures are designed to ensure the welfare and protection of any child or
young person who accesses services provided by Jiggy Wrigglers Franchise Limited or
its franchisees.
Jiggy Wrigglers is committed to the belief that protecting children is everyone’s
responsibility. These guidelines ensure all workers and volunteers know how to act
appropriately to any concerns.
We are committed to the fair treatment of all staff, potential staff, franchisees and users
of our services, regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability or
background.
Section 2 – Recruitment
These procedures apply to all Jiggy Wrigglers staff, franchisees and volunteers
(employed or self-employed). Pre-engagement checks include:
• Proof of identity
• Evidence of the right to work in the UK
• Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) / PVG Disclosure Scotland check
• Two professional references
• Overseas conviction assessment (where applicable)
• Risk assessment of DBS disclosures
• Self-declaration form including fitness to work
Any offer of engagement is conditional upon satisfactory checks being completed.
Section 3
Recognising the Signs and Symptoms of Abuse
Abuse may come to light through:
• Direct disclosure by a child• Third-party or anonymous reports
• Suspicious changes in behaviour, appearance, or drawings
• Reports of historic abuse
• Allegations about a worker’s conduct
All franchisees will complete Level 2 & 3 Child Safeguarding training annually.
All volunteers will complete Level 2 Child Safeguarding training annually.
Section 4 – Named Person(s) for Child Protection
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is responsible for ensuring all staff and
volunteers know what to do if they are concerned about a child.
Responsibilities include:
• Ensuring all staff and volunteers are aware of reporting routes
• Recording and referring concerns appropriately
• Storing records securely and confidentially
If concerns arise within another educational or childcare setting, they should first be
referred to that setting’s Child Protection Officer.
Section 5 – Stages to Follow if You Are Worried About a Child
Stage 1
• Listen carefully and take the child seriously.
• Do not investigate the information / allegation yourself.
• Explain that you must share the information with others who can help.
• Notify the DSL in the setting and the DSL at Jiggy Wrigglers.
• Record details immediately using the safeguarding pro-forma (Appendix 3).
• Keep all records confidential and secure.
Stage 2
• The DSL will contact the local authority children’s department and/or police if a
child is, or is likely to be, at risk of abuse.
• The DSL may also seek advice from the NSPCC 24-hour Helpline (0808 800
5000).
• If the DSL is unavailable, the DDSL or Jiggy Wrigglers Head Office will take action.
Section 6 – Managing Allegations Against Staff, Franchisees or Volunteers
• Inform the DSL immediately.
• If the DSL is involved, an independent senior person will handle the matter.
• The DSL will contact the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) for advice.
• A written record of the incident must be made promptly and accurately.
• An internal investigation will follow, potentially resulting in suspension or
termination, depending on the outcome.
Section 7 Recording and Managing Confidential Information
• Use the official safeguarding pro-forma (Appendix 3).
• Store records securely and share only with relevant agencies.
• Maintain confidentiality unless a child’s safety is at risk.
Section 8 Dissemination and Review
This policy is made available to all staff, franchisees, and volunteers via Jiggy Wrigglers’
central storage system. It is also available to parents and carers upon request.The policy will be reviewed annually, taking into account legislative updates and
feedback from staff, franchisees, volunteers, parents, and carers.
